CAFÉ AMAN

Greenwich Podcast

Martha’s solo project ‘Café Aman’ created a classical urban mix of music, with colourful Eastern modes, fusing the contemporary influences of her upbringing in London, with Rembetika, the music of the Greek refugees from Asia Minor. (Rembetika music is the music of Martha’s parent culture and features strongly in her upbringing).

Café Aman began with an Arts Council commission in 1999. This commissioned work instantly received wide acclaim after a broadcast of the concert by BBC Radio 3. Other commissions have included PRS foundation, London Arts Board and documentaries.

Martha’s project follows her passion for vocal based music, world music and Classical music.

Café Aman has accumulated numerous performance credits at venues and festivals including Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Rooms, The Jazz Café, London Jazz Festival, Royal Academy of the Arts, Canary Wharf Jazz Festival, The National Theatre, BBC World Music Festival, Bristol Hope Centre, Phoenix Exeter Arts Centre, Bracknell World Music Festival, Brighton Komedia, Cargo, Chard Festival, Brighton Festival, May Fest, Chichester Festivities, City of London Festival.
